Why make a new comp series?

We can only watch the wrong approach taken in drifting so much before we jump in head first to solve it. We’ve got the best people in drifting on our side, people who have been involved for 20 years and have seen the highs and lows. Drifting is as interesting as the biggest Motorsports like F1 / NASCAR. We're just going about it wrong. We think it should have a HUGE streaming service level show and top drivers should have massive fan followings and great income from it. Watching the ball get dropped so many times and the path continues to stray. We have had hundreds of conversations with fellow drifters over the years of everything being done wrong saying the exact same things to change and get it back on course. Eventually we built out the pillars of what’s most important and we’re here to actualize.

Is it pro or pro-am?

PRO as in professional. We’re not a feeder series, we want to be THE series.

What licensing are you using?

Our own. ADC Pro. With a board of seasoned vet drifters, we’ll be able to determine who is pro level not just in skill but in professionalism and preparedness. Pro drifting licensing is a made up construct that clearly isn’t a determining factor. This is something we will be transparent about in our methods and if someone were to LOSE their license temporarily why that would be. We believe in redemption so it would be tough to permanently ban beyond actual illegal things that get you jail time.

What is the BOP (balance of performance)…how much power?

One of the biggest mistakes in pro drifting is no power limits. This is a big mistake for so many reasons so we’ll just cover the two biggest.

1) 700hp can rarely stack up against 1300hp, pretty obvious why. It just going to add more cheat when the 1300hp car can surge specifically in the drag race / run up with all that extra power and the criteria of craft falls to the wayside.

2) When you allow 1300hp then wealth overshadows skill within the series and ultimately it pushes away any OE interest or team owner interest (Toyota, BMW, Hendrick, Penske, etc). “Power per dollar” is a common saying for a reason, every 25hp holds an expense of build and operational cost. Then of course it becomes the same 2 engines dominating the series, LS and JZ. We love both engines but the soul of drifting has to also include turbo 4 cylinders, flat 6, etc. Everyone misses the variety and the sounds.

With huge expensive horsepower comes huge expensive drivetrain and the need for more grip. It creates TOO expensive of a car for a motorsport that really isn’t paying you back. The sad part is the mid corner and exit speeds aren’t even visually faster from 600 to 1300…it’s simply become the ability to drag race faster / surge and defend against bad driving. This is also why we do a roll start.

Our initial concept was 400-600hp with the exact same tire size and brand. After talking to 100s of drivers, this held true. Those power numbers are FAST, smokey, and provide all the same entertainment value for fans but you can manage 550hp without a dog box or quick change, it can be managed quite well financially.

How do you confirm that power?

As a new series, it’s a gentleman’s agreement. If someone is clearly taking off we’ll step in. With your support as we grow this with more sponsors we’ll have a mobile dyno and in car GPS data to read lateral acceleration.
